Meet Dr. Eduardo Lintz

Dr. Eduardo Lintz, who graduated over 20 years ago from the Professor Pitanguy School in Rio de Janeiro, has been establishing himself as one of the leading names in plastic surgery in Brazil. Dr. Eduardo Lintz sees patients from all over Brazil and the world at his clinics in Sao Paulo and Campinas.

Dr. Eduardo Lintz, a reference in Plastic Surgery in Campinas and Sao Paulo, graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas). He completed his General Surgery residency at the PUC-Campinas Hospital and was a Plastic Surgery resident for one year at the National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janeiro. He then joined the Plastic Surgery Service residency of master and professor Ivo Pitanguy, one of the greatest names in medicine and a world reference in plastic surgery, where he worked for three years alongside the Professor at his own clinic. He served as Assistant Professor at the Pitanguy Institute from 2008 to 2019.

During his travels around the world, Dr. Lintz served as a fellow at the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia in Milan, Italy, at the Dallas Rhinoplasty Center in the United States, in Portugal with Dr. Miguel Ferreira, a specialist in preservation rhinoplasty, and in Saint Louis with Dr. Mike Nayak, a specialist in face and nose, particularly in the Deep Plane facelift technique.

Working in both Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lintz brings the experience acquired at the National Cancer Institute in Rio de Janeiro and the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia in Milan in reconstructive surgeries.

What is plastic surgery?

A branch of general surgery, plastic surgery, from the Greek Plastikos, means to mold, to shape, and represents a very important specialty in Brazil and worldwide in the aesthetic and functional treatment of the conditions that most affect patients.

Based on the concept of health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease,” as defined by the World Health Organization in 1947, plastic surgery reinforces its importance in restoring form and function, as well as in achieving the aesthetic improvements desired by patients.

History of plastic surgery

Historically, the first references to reconstructive treatments date back to 3000 years before Christ, in Egypt.

The first nasal reconstructions date back to approximately 800 BC, in India with Sushruta Samhita, the father of plastic surgery, who developed nasal reconstruction techniques for treating patients who underwent nasal amputations for religious, criminal, or military reasons. Techniques later used in treating soldiers with noses damaged in battle.

Wars played an important role in the development of reconstruction techniques, starting from World War I. In the treatment of serious injuries and amputations, plastic surgery developed, offering increasingly better results in restoring form and function. By the hands of a New Zealand surgeon based in England, Sir Harold Gillies, in 1916 the first surgery was performed on a soldier hit in the face by a gunshot. For this reason, he is considered the father of modern plastic surgery.

In parallel, aesthetic surgery developed while always maintaining a close connection with reconstructive surgery, since every reconstructive surgery aims for an aesthetic improvement and vice versa, making this connection indivisible.

Plastic surgery in Brazil

Through the influence of Professor Pitanguy, his disciples, and other great Brazilian surgeons, plastic surgery in Brazil has established itself as one of the most important in the world.

In addition to ultrasonic liposuction, other modern methods have been used to stimulate collagen synthesis, such as skin tightening and plasma devices combined with radiofrequency.
